The 7-week birth course in Amsterdam from The House of Balance, which focuses on prenatal yoga, offers physical and mental preparation for a confident and relaxed delivery. In this prenatal course, you will not only learn comfortable postures for during your pregnancy and yoga techniques, but you will also gain theoretical knowledge about the delivery process: such as breathing techniques, being in contact with your pelvic floor, and what happens during the different phases of your baby’s birth.

Your (birth) partner also plays an important role. During our three-hour partner class, you will receive a clear explanation of the course of the delivery and practical tools to support you in a loving and effective way before, during, and after the delivery.

Depending on the location, The House of Balance pregnancy courses are offered in both Dutch and English.

What can you expect from the birth course that focuses on prenatal yoga?

During this 7-week prenatal course, you will gain step-by-step insight into everything you need to deliver confidently and relaxed. The course is suitable for both first and subsequent pregnancies.

You will learn, among other things:

  • Prenatal yoga: postures that support and strengthen your body
  • Breathing & relaxation exercises: techniques to help you during delivery, but also in the time before and after
  • Theory about the birth process: information about the pelvic floor, birthing positions, and pushing stage
  • Connection with your baby, yourself, and your partner
  • 3-hour partner class: with tools and explanation for your partner to optimally support you
  • Meditation exercises: to consciously prepare for your delivery

What does a pregnancy yoga class look like?

Each pregnancy course & prenatal yoga lesson at The House of Balance lasts one and a half hours and is specially designed to help you relax, keep your body supple, and prepare you mentally and physically for childbirth. The lessons are suitable for everyone – even if you have never done yoga before – and take place in a small-scale group of a maximum of 10 participants.

A typical class consists of:

  • A cup of tea and space for exchange: We discuss themes surrounding pregnancy, birth, and parenthood
  • Simple and safe yoga postures that help you consciously connect with your pregnant body and help keep your body supple and strong
  • Breathing and relaxation exercises that support you not only now, but also during your birth.
  • A lying final relaxation in the form of a guided meditation to fully unwind.

During the course, you will attend five pregnancy yoga classes and one extra-long partner workshop where you will delve deeper into breathing, support, and preparation together. We conclude with a follow-up class with babies.

I am very happy with the breathing exercises we learned! Thanks to them, even though the contractions came so quickly one after another, I was still able to keep breathing into my belly and endure it. When it was time to push, my body just seemed to know what to do. Fijne lessen met een goede balans tussen yoga en informatie.
Hele fijne zwangerschapsyoga en geboortevoorbereiding cursus! Ike is een fijne docent met veel kennis en ervaring. Het allerleukst vond ik de partnerles, waarin we samen houdingen gingen oefenen die kunnen helpen bij bevalling. De lessen waren een fijne mix tussen connectie met andere vrouwen in dezelfde fase, handige informatie over de bevalling en ontspannende yoga. Aanrader!

Ik heb het genoegen gehad om bij Ike een Shantala for Babies-cursus te volgen, en ik moet zeggen dat ze echt uitzonderlijk is. Haar aandacht, vriendelijkheid en uitgebreide kennis creëren een voedende leeromgeving. Fijne drie daagse baby massage, kundige docente die de tijd neemt om alles rustig uit te leggen. Heel flexibel als je even je baby tussendoor moet voeden of verschonen. Ook leuk om andere moeders te leren kennen!

Ik heb de zwangerschapsyoga bij Ike gevolgd. Het was de perfecte yoga om in de juiste state of mind (en body;)) te komen tijdens de zwangerschap en een fijne voorbereiding op de bevalling. De lessen voelde veilig, warm en gentle. Ik keek iedere keer weer uit naar de volgende les en raad het iedereen aan! Ik kijk, mede door deze fijne yogalessen, terug op een hele gebalanceerde zwangerschapsperiode met aandacht voor de binnenwereld. Dank je wel!

Yoga Spot in Amsterdam-South is a wonderful yoga studio, where we have been offering our pregnancy yoga course for years. The studio is located in a beautiful location: next to the Olympic Stadium.

Frequently Asked Questions Pregnancy Yoga

It is best to choose a pregnancy course that ends at least two to four weeks before your due date. This way, you will have no more obligations during the last few weeks of your pregnancy and you can enjoy ‘cocooning’. Are you already a bit further along in your pregnancy? We are happy to think along with you about the possibilities. Feel free to contact us.

– We can put you on the waiting list. Occasionally, someone drops out.
– You can also choose to enroll in a later pregnancy yoga course. You then run the risk of missing the last class(es). This is not necessarily a problem. We also have recordings of all classes available. On the day your course starts, you will receive access to these. So, you won’t miss any important information.
– If it’s your turn on the waiting list and you have enrolled in a later pregnancy yoga group, we will simply transfer you.

No problem. After you have registered, you will receive access to the digital agenda. Here you can easily swap classes or cancel your attendance. This way, you can make up for a missed class with another group.

The topic of, for example, class 2 is the same at every location. It is best if you choose the same class to make up. If this is not possible, you can choose any pregnancy yoga class. You might then attend the same class twice, but that is not a big deal. This way, you still get your movement, breathing, and relaxation.

We can discuss whether there is a partner workshop on another date that you can join. In the unlikely event that this is not possible, you can also participate in the partner workshop with your mother, sister, or good friend. You can also find all the information in the online learning environment, so you can also prepare for the delivery at home together with your partner.
